Strides have been taken by Time of Jubilee/Jubilee to develop a strategy for existing homeowners in the area: the ones who live in older housing stock; the elderly, who have stayed in their houses throughout the neighborhood’s transitions, and now find that they need assistance to repair their homes; and those of modest means who can afford materials but not the cost of labor needed to make small home repairs.

When a homeowner cannot afford to make the required repairs to their homes, the home often falls in further disrepair, or they may have a inexperienced person complete the work, which can lead to more damage, and this can ultimately lead to abandonment. Time of Jubilee believed that there needed to be a strategy to ensure long-term home ownership opportunities to all.

To meet this need, Jubilee Homes is a participating agency in HOME Headquarters’ S.H.A.R.P. Program for Small Home Repairs. This program allows homeowners to have minor home repairs done at an affordable price by qualified contractors. Similar to the program formally run by West Side Inner City Association, Jubilee Homes offer contractor services at a subsidized amount for minor home repairs, with the qualified Low-moderate income homeowners only paying for the cost of materials.
