Goals and Objectives of 314 Hudson Street

314 Hudson Street Corporation is a new concept in housing for developmentally disabled parents and their minor children. This new five apartment complex at 314 Hudson Street will provide five families with subsidized housing plus the guidance they need to promote a stable family life.

Services include daily living skills such as, money management, conflict resolution and parenting classes. The program enhances a family's ability to grow and prosper.

Local agencies are invited to refer families for housing who need some support and guidance in raising their children.

Description of Apartments

The five apartments are located at 314 Hudson Street on Syracuse's south side. The complex has one 4 bedroom apartments, three 3 bedroom apartments and one 2 bedroom apartment.

It is handicapped accessible and has a laundry and meeting room.

Families of a developmentally disabled parent with children under the age 18 can be eligible.

All families should expect to pay 30% of the cost of their rent and utilities.

How We Help

We help families to develop and implement reasonable rules for their children. This provides structure, responsibility and effort.

We assist families with behavioral modification techniques and conflict resolution.

We enhance a family's ability to provide in-home care for family members with disabilities.

We provide an environment for families to learn rational and critical decision making.

We provide a safe, comfortable learning environment for all parents and children.

Children are exposed to diverse cultural and community events.

Each family's special interests are acknowledge and self understanding is encouraged.

The importance of education is stressed from Pre-K through college.

Youth are exposed to a variety of career and educational opportunities.

About 314 Hudson Street Corporation:

The apartment complex is a joint effort by Jubilee Homes and HOME, Inc. (Humanitarian Organization for Multi-cultural Experiences). Shirley Goddard, Executive Director of HOME, a nonprofit group that serves people with disabilities, obtained grants for the project from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and the City of Syracuse. This is the first project of its kind funded by HUD in New York State.
